The
Village
Enclosed
in a gorge and dominated by just a strip of sky, the village of Roccaporena,
birthplace of St. Rita, suddenly appears to the surprised visitor. It is connected
to the main town by the alternative route to the SS.320 that runs parallel to
the river Corno on the left and along the slopes of Mt. Sassa. The valley is
narrow, but the vegetation is evocative. The development of the village is closely
tied to the name of Mons. Giacomo Antonelli who, in 1949, with the collaboration
of some willing people, overcame miscomprehensions, opposition and resentment,
founded the Institute of St. Rita and retrieved Roccaporena from isolation and
the barren and impervious valley, giving it a new breath of life and welfare.
Thanks to the healthy air and peaceful surroundings, it is the ideal spot for
a peaceful and restful stay.
